After being accidentally injected with a powerful drug, Dr McCoy flees the Enterprise in a hysterical state and beams down to the desolate planet the ship has been orbiting. Searching for McCoy, Captain Kirk and his landing party discover a mysterious time vortex through which the good doctor has escaped.
